Mr Messy and Mr Funny
I voice both Mr Messy and Mr Funny in Mr. Men Little Miss Mini Adventures, and it is a real joy to be part of such a fun, character-led series. With the new Season 2 trailer now out, it feels like the perfect time to share a bit more about the voices behind the two characters.
Mr Messy has a slightly street, cockney flavour to his voice, while Mr Funny leans into a more northern delivery. Both are animated, lively and full of personality, which is exactly what makes them so enjoyable to perform. They each have their own rhythm and attitude, and that contrast helps them work brilliantly within the world of the show.
The characters were chosen for me by the agency, and I think they are a very good fit. It is always satisfying when a casting choice lands properly and the voices feel as though they naturally belong to the characters from the start. Character voice work like this is all about finding something distinctive, memorable and truthful within the style of the show. Even in a heightened animated world, the performance still needs to feel right for the character, rather than just sounding like a random funny voice dropped on top.
That is one of the things I enjoy most about projects like Mr. Men Little Miss Mini Adventures. The voices can be bold, exaggerated and full of life, but they still need control, comic timing and the right energy to make them land. Mr Messy and Mr Funny are very different in flavour, but both sit naturally in that playful universe.
